The count has left the manor on midsummer eve and Miss Julie, in a mood to have fun, dances wildly with all the servants. Even though the cook Kirstin, a deeply religious woman, finds it most inappropriate, her fiancé, the valet Jean is also invited to dance. But this dance turns out far from the ordinary – the relation between an aristocratic woman and her servant unleashes a series of events that no one is able to stop.
The Swedish playwright August Strindberg (1849—1912) wrote Miss Julie nearly 130 years ago. In her production, Laura Jaanhold is mainly interested in exploring at what moment can an innocent game become humiliation of one another and an exploitation of one’s power.
