Rogozhin is not the main character in Dostoevsky’s novel “The Idiot”, rather he is a point one could reach. He comes from dirt and sinks into the swamp, his will is unshakeable and his eyes flaming. Why isn’t he the hero? Rogozhin is searching for peace in places where you can only find frenzy, trying to reach happiness by means of misery. But even if his fate is to be ruined, it’s possible to find salvation from doom itself. Isn’t there always something of the best in even the worst things?
If all evil starts from the lack of something, can forcefully owning it be a solution? Rogozhin does not know yet what he needs, but he knows how to get it. He knows that he will reach it soon. In just a moment he will have it, hold it in his hands, own it entirely. Just a little bit more and he will have it.
