Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got
‘Till it’s gone*

Married couple Eric and Anna decide to try out a communal lifestyle in the house they inherited. They hope that if their commune members are charming, open-minded, smart, politically active, warm and kind people, then they would all together be on the road to perfection. Their teenage daughter Freja is also in search of her identity in the grown-up world amidst this new life arrangement.

The Commune premiered in 2011 in the Burgtheater in Vienna. The play written by Mogens Rukov and Thomas Vinterberg was inspired by Vinterberg’s own childhood spent in a commune.
